A2P SMS Compliance Checklist
Keep this checklist handy to ensure every SMS campaign follows current US carrier guidelines and avoids blacklisting.
✅ Before Sending Any Campaign
Confirm all contacts explicitly opted in to receive SMS
Validate phone numbers (remove landlines and VOIP numbers)
Register for A2P 10DLC (U.S. business messaging compliance)
Use a registered brand and campaign ID
Set up keyword-based opt-out handling (e.g., STOP, UNSUBSCRIBE)
Enable automated number validation (if available)
📤 Message Content Must Include:
Clear sender identity (brand, business, or agent name)
Reasonable message frequency (e.g., no spamming in short bursts)
Opt-out instruction: “Reply STOP to unsubscribe”
Avoid disallowed terms (e.g., “free money,” “click here now,” medical claims without context)
📊 After Sending:
Monitor opt-out rate ( 5% is risky)
Monitor error rate ( 10% may trigger blocks)
Check for carrier filtering or sudden drops in delivery
Log any user complaints or manual unsubscribes
🚫 What Not To Do:
Don’t send bulk SMS to cold leads or purchased lists
Don’t use SMS for high-pressure marketing without clear opt-in
Don’t send identical messages in rapid succession to large groups
